The Emscher Congress 2022: a project of the century is documented and JKR-Events is a front row witness.

The Ruhr region has come together and once again shown how change works, because although the Emscher has been sung about by one artist or another in the past, as open sewage it was certainly no hymn of praise.

This has been history since 2021, as no more wastewater has been channelled into this river since then. To celebrate this milestone in the overall Emscher conversion and renaturation project, the Emschergenossenschaft, together with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Municipal Affairs, Building and Gender Equality of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, hosted an international specialist congress on 3 March 2022. We at JKR not only organised the live event with a crew of over 30 employees and managed and coordinated all the trades of the 5 studios, but also created the content for the congress in advance, which was streamed as a hybrid event from the rooms of the Story Event Haus in Bottrop. And that means we travelled with our team all the way along the Emscher and experienced in a total of 13 days of filming how proud the individual people responsible are of their joint work, because the Ruhr region is known for precisely this mentality.

The drone flights for the documentary were a special experience and show a successful transformation of the landscape, which is creating a completely new quality of life in the individual neighbourhoods along the Emscher. Experiencing the Emscher as a clean body of water is only possible thanks to modern and intelligent wastewater treatment plants and an underground sewage system. The JKR team also filmed there and got to know some fascinating places, each of which presented its own unique challenges for the camera, sound and lighting.

We are proud to have been part of such an outstanding project, which quite rightly bears the title ‘Fascination. Transformation.’ . And as a personal highlight, all of our team’s ‘Sendung mit der Maus’ fans were delighted with the presenters Clarissa Corrêa da Silva and Ralph Caspers, who added even more charm and heart to the event.
